When I became a chiropractor in Glendale, I became aware that my technical skills were unusually advanced due to the fact that I’d been a guitar player for more than fifteen years. Needless to say, my hand coordination was advanced! I also became aware of carpal tunnel, the hand problem that many musicians develop. In fact, I was not only known as a Glendale Chiropractor, but I became known as “the music doctor” by many musicians who’d heard from other musicians that the chiropractic care I offered could “fix” their hand problems. The pain relief and increased mobility that my patients experienced, and the carpal tunnel surgeries (often ineffective or worse!) that were avoided resulted in a whole bunch of “thank yous.” In fact at holiday time, I not only got a plethora of “fruit baskets” from my appreciative patients, but plenty of “fruitcakes” from grateful insurance agencies who were compelled to spend far less each year in compensating for chiropractic care than they did for carpal tunnel surgeries!

Anyone who is informed about chiropractic techniques is well-aware that a chiropractic approach for pain relief, joint mobility, and general health and wellness is about more than the spine (though achieving spine health is essential). Repetitive movements make all joints of the musculoskeletal system vulnerable to diminished function and range of motion limitations. Like many other professionals whose work involves repetitive movements, musicians have discovered chiropractic care to be an effective, natural, non-surgical approach to treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Why do so many musicians, especially guitarists and pianists, experience carpal tunnel challenges in particular? Well, the carpal tunnel is located within the underside of the wrist! It is an actual “tunnel” (or passage) through which the Median nerve passes and allows it to give animation to the hands and fingers. Nerve entrapment is often the result of the types of repetitive movements performed by many musicians. to be sure, such nerve entrapment disorder is commonplace. The nerve is impinged between other tissues when inflammation or irritation, due to overuse, causes the tendon to enlarge. Long hours of practice, as well as extended performance, are generally responsible. Misalignment of the carpal bones frequently results. Far too many musicians experience pain, numbness, pins and needles, and tingling in their fingers and hand(s), particularly their thumb and adjacent two fingers. It is not secret that many musicians routinely awaken from sleep with these symptoms. And, these symptoms can go from bad to worse because CTS can make hands feel clumsy or weak, and fatigue quickly with activity. If treatment is not addressed, over time, grasping small objects (like a guitar pick or the bow of a bass) with the thumb and fingers can be extremely hard to do. And, although the savvy musician who is aware of the healing effects of chiropractic care would not let this happen, CTS left untreated can become the complete disability of the hand.

In addition to musicians, anyone else who is suffering from repetitive stress pain should see a chiropractor who understands the symptoms and the solution, like your chiropractor in Glendale. He can tell you more about the drug-free, natural approach of chiropractic care. Find out what it can do for you, by calling a chiropractor today!

Sacramento Chiropractor

Injuries are not unusual with any kind of sport. So, it’s a good idea to discover what injury is likely to take place in a specific sport and then to do whatever it takes to avoid it. Unfortunately, sports injuries can’t always be avoided. As a result, it’s beneficial to take good care of your body to make injury less predictable, or less traumatic. Before starting a sport, such as golf, the most valuable thing you can do is to be certain that you have an appropriate fitness level. By cultivating a healthy lifestyle, making sure your joints are mobile and your muscles are limber, warming and stretching your body before activity, using proper form and good postures during activity, and allowing yourself an appropriate amount of cool down and relaxation time, you will probably keep your body safe from injury.

Golf injuries don’t just happen to amateurs. It has been approximated that nearly a third of pro golfers playing concurrently are playing with injuries. Fortunately, all-round good health and fitness can decrease how many injuries you may incur and could actually preclude them altogether.

It is very important for you to have proper body strength in the muscle areas most utilized when golfing. But, it’s essential to make certain your spine is in proper alignment and that it has good mobility prior to setting out to build muscle strength. A proficient golf swing relies on your spine’s facility to adequately move in a rotational fashion. Back injuries are the most widespread sort of injuries sustained by golfers. Your Sacramento chiropractor will take care that your spine is in appropriate alignment and that there is good movement of the vertebrae. Chiropractic treatment can make a big difference in helping you to avert back injury.

It’s time to strengthen once you’re “straightened.” A safe, injury-free day on the green is contingent upon your being prepared for your golf activity. You can warm up your muscles and make straining them less likely by doing golf stretching and flexibility exercises. Flexibility in all parts of the body can be developed relatively fast through full body range of motion (ROM) exercises. Furthermore, elastic band conditioning offers functional golf range of motion improvements and can advance needed strength in the shoulders, hips and deep muscles of the core. Since elastic band training provides the dynamic resistance that general weight lifting does not, sports professionals, such as your chiropractor, are adding them to their golf conditioning programs.

Quite a few golfers suffer from “Golfer’s Elbow” besides back injuries. There is a minute difference between golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow although they are nearly identical injuries. Whereas the outside of the upper arm is disturbed in tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow affects the inner arm. Golfer’s elbow, like tennis elbow, can be the consequence of a single violent action, such as (in golf) thrusting down on the mat at the driving range or hitting a hard fairway surface. Repetitive stress from smaller shocks, though, is more commonly the cause. Moreover, it can come upon those who suddenly start playing too much golf. For example, if individuals that usually play golf once or twice a month decide to enter into a tournament, they are potentially at risk for incurring the injury.

Golf makes exclusive requirements on our body. Fatigue can be a challenge because the game ordinarily lasts longer than most other sports. Whenever the body is fatigued, bad posture and impeded coordination normally follow. Together, these two components can cause a number of injuries. In addition, the shoulder muscles are susceptible to injury due to the repetitive swinging of the golf clubs. Just as it is vital for you to stretch and warm up prior to starting your golf game, be sure to rest your body properly between games.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is, often, a surprising injury related to golf. But, this injury can be the result of numerous games of golf played over several months continuously as it is an affliction that comes about as a result of repetitive stress Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be a severe injury causing incapacitation and on occasion requiring surgery. However, chiropractic care and, sometimes the use of a brace will alleviate the problem if a health professional, such as your chiropractor, detects it at an early stage.

The majority of golfers appear to think that injuries are just an inescapable part of a golfer’s life. However, a healthy, mobile spine, good preparation, proper exercise and muscle conditioning, attaining and maintaining a an appropriate fitness level, and sensible rest and recuperation after your game is over, can help to make injuries a good deal less a part of your golfing experience.

Seattle Chiropractic offers conservative care that relieves carpal tunnel pain because the methods that work so dramatically with the spine can, by all means, be applied to other joints in the body. Due to trauma, excess vibration, or repetitive motions, essentially every joint is exposed to debilitation and range of motion limitations. For this reason, chiropractic care is an effective, drug-free, non-invasive approach to the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
The carpal tunnel is positioned within the underside of the wrist. It is a tunnel, or passage, through which the Median nerve journeys on its way to affect and enliven the hand and fingers. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome falls into the category of nerve entrapment disorders and is clearly the most common. As the name suggests, the dysfunction happens when a nerve is impinged or trapped between other tissues of the body causing inflammation of the nerve. This can take place if the size of the tendon increases due to irritation or overuse, or if the tunnel, itself, decreases in size because of a misalignment of the carpal bones.

Pain, numbness, pins and needles, and tingling in the fingers are the first symptoms of CTS. These symptoms are frequently noticeable at night and routinely wake people from their sleep as they feel compelled sit up in bed and shake-out and/or rub the hands in order to ease these unpleasant feelings. In addition, activity can cause the hands to feel clumsy or weak, and fatigue easily. Eventually, grasping small objects with the thumb and fingers can be markedly affected and, without treatment, can develop into an entire disability of the hand.

In order to confine the debilitating symptoms resulting from the advancement of CTS, expert diagnosis and suitable treatment are essential. If you are suffering from the pain and disability associated with carpal tunnel syndrome, it would be beneficial for you to try the most non-invasive approach first. As mentioned above, chiropractic care is drug-free, non-surgical, and highly effective. Call your chiropractor today and learn more about what safe and natural chiropractic can do for you.

Chiropractic Seattle wants to help you to avoid or get rid of elbow pain. Here’s how: We all know how “irritating” it can be when someone is talking loudly on a cell phone (as long as that person isn’t us!). Honestly, doesn’t it seem as if you can’t even take a quiet walk along the beach or in the park without someone walking by shouting into their cell phone? You could say, in fact, that nowadays the excessive use of cell phones has become a pain in our psyche. Well, the detrimental effects of excessive cell phone use apparently doesn’t stop with “pain in the brain.” A new report outlines the prevalence of “cell phone elbow,” an affliction in which users experience pain and numbness in their elbow due to extensive cell phone use. The idea is similar carpal tunnel syndrome, and the effect on the muscles and tendons concerned is essentially the same except a different nerve is pinched. Instead of being located in the wrist, cell phone elbow (“cubital tunnel syndrome”) cell phone elbow originates in the elbow region and results in pain or numbness in forearms, as well as tingling in pinkie and ring fingers. According to a study from the Cleveland Clinic, doctors are seeing more and more individuals experiencing these symptoms.

What exactly produces the problem? Holding a cell phone to the ear causes the elbow to bend, thereby stretching the nerve between muscles and tendons. When the arm is bent for long periods of time, the nerve gets inflamed. “Repetitive, sustained stretching of the nerve is like stepping on a garden hose,” said Dr. Peter J. Evans, director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Hand and Upper Extremity Center. “With the hose, you’re blocking the flow of water. With the elbow, you’re blocking the blood flow to the nerve, which causes it to misfire and short circuit.” The first symptom of cell phone elbow is usually pain just below the elbow in the forearm. This is usually followed by the sensation of pins and needles in the pinkie and ring finger. In the most severe case those fingers can curl up and become difficult to use.

The good news is that the condition is easily preventable and treatable. Users are simply encouraged to avoid holding their phone in one position for too long in order to reduce the amount of strain on the affected muscles. For those who are already feeling strain, it is advisable to do simple stretches in order to help prevent some of the damage.

And, of course, a quiet walk in the park or along the beach with your cell phone turned off or, better yet, left behind, would not only go along way in reducing cell phone elbow, but it might do a lot to improve the health of your psyche as well!

This study was published in the May issue of the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.
